What to Expect During a Low-Level Light Therapy (LLLT) Treatment
If you've been diagnosed with Dry Eye caused by Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD), your Optometrist may recommend Low-Level Light Therapy (LLLT).
Many patients are surprised by how simple the treatment can be.
During your visit, you'll sit comfortably while a specialized LED light device delivers gentle red, blue, and/or yellow wavelength light to the skin of your face. The treatment takes about 15 minutes, is completely non-invasive, and requires no downtime.
What Does LLLT Feel Like?
LLLT is designed to be a soothing treatment. As the light is delivered around your eyes, you may notice a gentle, soothing warmth across your face and eyelids—almost like sitting in a light sauna. Most patients find the experience calming, and you can return to your normal activities after treatment.
LLLT works by reducing inflammation and supporting healthier meibomian gland function. By addressing factors that contribute to MGD, it helps improve tear film stability and dry eye symptoms over time.
Because dry eye affects everyone differently, Dr. K. may recommend a series of treatments or combine LLLT with other therapies based on your symptoms, gland function, and overall ocular surface health.
Our goal isn't simply to relieve your symptoms for a few hours—it's to improve your long-term eye comfort and eye health.
