Analyzing Your Dry Eye
Dry Eye Disease is a chronic condition that happens when occurs when our tears don’t provide enough moisture to keep our eyes comfortable. At SK Eyecare, we understand how frustrating dry eye symptoms can be. Millions of people experience burning, irritation, redness, a sandy or gritty sensation, excessive tearing, or fluctuating vision. When left untreated, these symptoms can interfere with reading, driving, screen time, and other everyday activities.
Dry eye can be caused by many factors including extended screen time, environmental factors, hormonal changes, certain medications, or blocked oil glands in the eyelids that affect tear quality.
At SK Eyecare, we use advanced diagnostic technology and high-definition imaging to evaluate your tear film and eyelid glands in detail. By identifying the root cause of your dry eye, our team can create a personalized treatment plan—targeting the source of the problem to restore lasting comfort and clear vision.
These tools analyze the stability, thickness, and volume of your tear quality on the eye’s surface;
Assess for any type and extent of damage on the cornea;
Evaluate the Meibomian Glands, detecting any area of loss, their structural integrity, and the quality and quantity of your natural oils;
Assess and manage conditions along the eyelid margins (i.e. stye, blepharitis, ocular rosacea, mites);
Interpret the level of redness in the white of the eye - conjunctiva - often indicating inflammation or irritation.
In Office Treatments We Offer
Punctal Plugs
Tiny, soft inserts are gently placed into the tear ducts of the eyelids to slow tear drainage. By helping our eyes retain their natural moisture, the plugs keep the surface of the eyes hydrated and comfortable. Punctal plugs are a quick and effective solution for eyes that do not produce enough tears, anatomically large tear ducts, or for patients who would like to lower their frequent use of artificial tears.
Amniotic Membrane Therapy
For more advanced cases of dry eyes, amniotic membrane therapy can be a highly effective treatment option. The therapy works by calming inflammation while healing the surface of the eye from damage. The membrane provides anti-inflammatory benefits and natural tissue regeneration to help restore a healthier ocular surface. Patients experience noticeable relief and comfort from its therapeutic effects even months after the membrane has dissolved.
Eyelid Exfoliation
This gentle, in-office cleaning treatment exfoliates the eyelids and lashes to remove debris that contribute to irritation, itching, and styes. It is particularly beneficial for patients with Meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) and can be incorporated into a long-term management plan when appropriate. The procedure is quick and relaxing, improves the tear quality, and clears the eyes of buildup and allergens while also reducing the risk of future styes. Many patients begin to notice relief after just one session.
